How it works
Each step has one job to explain. That keeps the page easy to scan and makes the next action obvious.
01
Pick a soundscape, set a timer, and let the room settle with you.

02
Leave your phone by the bed and let Restful follow the night with live microphone-based analysis.

03
Check your journal and trends in the morning, then tune tomorrow night from what you learned.

Privacy and trust
Microphone input is used only for live sleep analysis. No recordings are stored.
Each minute of audio is scored on the device and deleted straight away. The working folder is cleared when the session ends.
Sleep journals live in a local database on the phone. No account is required and the app works offline.
One purchase, no subscription and no in-app purchase, so there is no upgrade prompt waiting behind a feature you already use.
Questions
Straight answers about how the tracking works, what it costs, and what the app does with the microphone.
No. Restful analyses your night using the iPhone microphone, so the only device you need is the phone already beside your bed. There is no wearable, ring, or mattress sensor to buy.
While you sleep, Restful listens for movement and sound through the iPhone microphone and turns that signal into a nightly sleep curve of awake, light, and deep phases. The analysis runs live on the night in progress, on the device itself.
It is an estimate, not a measurement. Sound and movement are a useful proxy for how settled a night was, but no phone-based method can stage sleep the way a clinical sleep study does, and a still, quiet hour spent reading can read as sleep. Restful is most useful for the pattern across weeks, not for the exact number on any single night.
No. Audio is analysed in one-minute pieces and each piece is deleted as soon as it has been scored, and the working folder is cleared at the end of the session. Nothing is kept on the phone and no audio is uploaded anywhere.
Restful is a one-time purchase of USD 2.99 on the App Store. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, no advertising, and no paid tier. Everything in the app is available from the first night.
Yes, for a full night. Restful needs the phone charging and resting near the bed. If the screen stays locked on battery power for about an hour, the session ends and no journal is written for that night, so connect the charger before you start.
A journal entry for the night with your sleep score, total sleep, deep sleep, when you fell asleep, when you woke up, and a curve showing awake, light, and deep phases. You can save that summary as an image.
The journal is there from your first tracked night. The Insights tab needs seven tracked nights before it fills in, because averages and weekday patterns are not meaningful before that. After that it covers 7 days, 4 weeks, 120 days, or every night you have recorded.
Four full-length nature tracks - heavy rain with thunder, ocean, a babbling brook, and a lone campfire - plus four night-city ambiences for Tokyo, New York, Paris, and Shanghai. There is also a ten-channel mixer you blend yourself: ocean, stream, rain, thunder, wind, campfire, crickets, singing bowl, cafe, and white noise, each with its own volume slider, and your mix is remembered. A 10, 15, 20, or 30 minute timer stops playback once you drift off.
No. Restful has a fixed-time alarm with 17 wake tones, shake-to-snooze, a snooze interval you choose, and a limit on how long you can keep snoozing. It does not move your alarm inside a wake window based on the sleep data.
Yes. Nap mode is its own screen with its own length picker - unlimited, 10, 20, 30, or 60 minutes, or a custom length up to six hours - and it wakes you with the tone you chose. Naps use the same sound library as overnight sleep. Microphone sleep tracking runs only in overnight mode, so naps are timed and woken but not scored.
Those apps are free to download and paid for by subscription. Restful is bought once for USD 2.99 and has no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no advertising, so nothing you use today can move behind a paywall later. In exchange, Restful is a smaller app from a small team with no ratings yet, and its sound library is deliberately short rather than a catalogue of thousands.
No account is required. Sleep journals are stored in a local database on the device, and the app is fully usable offline. Signing in is optional and only exists to back journals up.
iPhone and iPad running iOS 13.0 or later. There is no Android version. The app interface is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
No. Restful supports general wellness and sleep habits. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. If you have ongoing concerns about your sleep, speak to a doctor.
